Layette was one of the "cute girls" kidnapped in the Walled City of Selinas. Her parents sold her into “long-term, indentured servitude” that was paid upfront. Because of the shadiness of the deal, it was not recommended that she go back to her parents and her buyer is unlikely to ever step forward.
