In a third-year classroom of Yamakita Middle School 26 years ago, there was a student named Misaki. As an honors student who was also good at sports, the charming girl was popular with her classmates. When she suddenly died, her classmates decided to carry on as if she was still alive until graduation. Then, in the spring of 1998, a boy named Sakakibara Kouichi transfers to that classroom, and he grows suspicious of the fearful atmosphere in it. In particular, there is a beautiful, aloof girl named Mei Misaki who wears an eyepatch and is always alone drawing pictures.
Note: Originally serialized in literary magazine Yasei Jidai between 2006 to 2009. Illustrated version printed under the light novel Sneaker Bunko label in 2012.

MAINKōichi Sakakibara (榊原 恒一, Sakakibara Kōichi) is the male protagonist of Another. He is a new transfer student to Yomiyama North Middle School's 9th Grade Class 3 in May 1998. He is the only son in the Sakakibara family. His mother supposedly passed away 15 years ago after giving birth to him. He also makes a minor appearance in phone calls during the events of Another 2001, where he is 18 years old.

SUPPORTINGKatsumi Matsunaga is a Yomiyama North Middle School student from the 3-3 class of 1983, along with Reiko Mikami and Ryoko Akiyama. In 1983, he managed to successfully stop the calamity of Class 3-3; the only recorded case of the phenomenon stopping halfway through the year.

SUPPORTINGRitsuko Sakakibara (榊原 理津子, Sakakibara Ritsuko) is the older sister of Reiko Mikami, the deceased wife of Yōsuke Sakakibara, and the mother of Kōichi Sakakibara, who only appears in the school graduation album and the old Sakakibara family pictures. She went to Yomiyama North Middle School in 1972 and was in the same class as the dead Misaki Yomiyama, 9th Grade Class 3-3.
