It’s 1949 Los Angeles, and Kevin Yamagata, a Japanese American comic book author, is drawing his bestselling character, Billy Bat: a quick-witted detective who is, unsurprisingly, a cartoon bat. Everything is going well for Kevin until he discovers an unfortunate truth: He may have unintentionally plagiarized his beloved character from a drawing he once saw in Japan. Devastated by the news, Kevin returns to war-torn Japan to find the drawing’s original artist . . . but the character’s origins turn out to be far older and more perplexing than he had ever imagined.

Billy Bat (ビリーバット, Birii Batto) is a popular character from Kevin Yamagata's hit comic, itself named Billy Bat. Billy was eventually revealed to be an actual entity that manifested itself into a bat right in front of Kevin's eyes, an entity which only a chosen few are able to see. The bat is the central focus and mystery of the story dragging each character into the plot in some way, with each individual trying to pursue it so that they can gain control of the world by using its sheer influence or using its supernatural abilities to make their dreams come true. He influences people's minds and actions so that he can achieve his goal. He is morally ambiguous; many people perceive him as the devil or God. Throughout the decades, he has also been known as two bats, one white and one black, who are perceived differently despite appearing identical; even so, he is only one being.

His adventure starts in 1981 as a Princeton University student in New Jersey. His alias is 'Golden Bat' when he created his painting in public secretly.

MAINJackie Momochi (ジャッキーももち, Jakki^ Momochi) is a nisei Japanese-American University girl in New York who was unwillingly influenced by Billy Bat. She is a descendant of Momochi Clan of Iga-ryū. Later she goes to Japan to investigate Father Xavier's first discipline, Yajirō.
