Kotaro is a robotics and technology genius who has become the object of an evil group's attention. They want Kotaro to help them build their Machine Empire and beef up their artificially intelligent creations, the B'ts (pronounced "beats"). Once the Empire captures Kotaro, he may have no choice but to work for them, unless his kid brother Teppei can somehow rescue him. But after a powerful B't and its master attack Teppei, it appears Kotaro's last hope is lost. However, Teppei's spilled blood awakens a legendary B't (these evil creatures bond with blood), so Teppei now has one of the most deadly, sentient creatures-the B't X-at his command. Still, the brothers are up against an army from the Machine Empire, and the odds are against them. Even if they survive, B't X isn't keen on going up against another creature from the Machine Empire.

MAINTeppei is the younger brother of famed biorobotics engineer Kōtarō Takamiya, who took care of him when their parents died. They grew up on Kamui Island but were separated when Kōtarō left to pursue his studies in Berlin. From an early age, Teppei has displayed a talent with taming animals, unlike his brother whose skills are in the academe. Teppei has since lived with an uncle whom he helps by taking care of the farm animals.

MAINFou grew up in war-torn Sodom, where he was orphaned at a young age when his parents died in a bombing. This drove Fou into becoming a self-reliant and aloof teenager, having only a girl named Lily and her brother Quattro as friends. Even at a young age, Fou was a virtuoso, skilled at playing the violin, organ and harmonica. He used to perform at church solely for the food, and he admittedly hated religion because of its passivity to end the war.

MAINRon was one of the orphan children rescued and taken care of by The Machine Emperor during the war, along with Fou Lafine and Quattro, and Karen. Due to his insect-like features and immunity to the Evil Flower, Camilla is presumably a cyborg, although this is not confirmed in the anime or the manga. For this innate ability, Camilla is tasked to tending the garden and supply the flowers for Nasha inside the Area.

SUPPORTINGAccording to X, Kaos was once the greatest warrior in the Empire, being picked first by the Emperor himself. He has since retired, taking his B't L'Amour with him, which the Empire allowed because of his past service. During his time with the Empire, Kaos realized that the B't are being used as mere weapons to achieve the Emperor's goals. He wished to rebel but was too old and weak to do so, instead decided to wait for a younger warrior to fulfill this cause. His hope of rebellion was rekindled upon hearing of Teppei Takamiya and how he revived X.
