Tomoya is a handsome young man with blue hair. His hairstyle and facial expression gives a delinquent vibe to his fellow schoolmates. He is noted by other characters to be very attractive.

古河渚

Nagisa Okazaki (岡崎渚, Okazaki Nagisa?), née Furukawa (古河?), is one of the main heroines of Clannad. She is the daughter of Akio Furukawa and Sanae Furukawa. Tomoya Okazaki throughout the Clannad manga and anime. Nagisa becomes an even greater force in the anime in the ~After Story~ arc, culminating in her marriage to Tomoya and the birth of their only daughter, Ushio Okazaki.

坂上智代

Tomoyo Sakagami (坂上智代, Sakagami Tomoyo?) is one of the major heroines of Clannad and the title character of its sequel visual novel, Tomoyo After ~It's a Wonderful Life~. She transfers to Hikarizaka Private High School as a second-year student during the spring and has a reputation as a tough girl who beats up troublesome delinquents. Kanako calls her the strongest in a brawl during Tomoyo After. Although Tomoya is older than her, Tomoya does not show her respect as a senior student. She has a younger brother named Takafumi and is revealed in Tomoyo After to have a half-sister, Tomo. Tomoyo's theme is Her Determination and her spin-off game theme Light Colors.

伊吹風子

Fuko Ibuki (伊吹風子, Ibuki Fūko?) is a first year student at the Hikarizaka Private High School and the younger sister of Kouko Ibuki.

藤林杏

Kyou Fujibayashi (藤林杏, Fujibayashi Kyō?) is a close friend of Tomoya Okazaki and the older twin sister of Ryou Fujibayashi whom Kyou is in the same year with.

一ノ瀬ことみ

Kotomi Ichinose (一ノ瀬ことみ, Ichinose Kotomi) is a childhood friend of Tomoya Okazaki, but, like Kyou Fujibayashi, she is in the same year and in a separate class from Tomoya. Kotomi is a genius girl who is almost always seen in the library reading books, or cutting up pages of printed media. Kotomi's theme is Étude Pour les Petites Supercordes.

Sasaki (佐々木?) is the leader of the rival gang that opposes Kazuto Miyazawa's gang. He is a guy that looks imposing and grave but is actually fair and shows respect for others.

藤林椋

Ryou Fujibayashi (藤林椋, Fujibayashi Ryō?) is a secondary main character. She is Tomoya's classmate and his class representative. She is the younger twin sister of Kyou.

仁科りえ

Rie Nishina (仁科りえ, Nishina Rie?) is a minor character of Clannad. She is a second-year student at Hikarizaka Private High School who once played the violin when she was young, and won numerous competitions. She had a lot of talent and was supposed to go to study abroad, but she was involved in an accident. As a result, the strength of her grip became weak and she was not capable of playing the violin as well as she had formerly been able to. Her plans to leave Japan were terminated, and she entered a phase of depression, having lost her main goal in life. However, when she entered high school, Toshio Koumura taught her about the chorus, and she found that she could sing very well. Thus, having found a new purpose to live on, she chose to assemble a chorus club with her friends. Her best friend is her fellow club member, Sugisaka.
