ゲート―自衛隊彼の地にて、斯く戦えり
In the year 20XX, a mysterious gate to another world suddenly opens in Tokyo's Ginza district.
From beyond it pour invading armies and monstrous creatures from a fantasy realm. Japan's Self-Defense Forces repel the attack-and push forward through the gate into the unknown territory on the other side.
Among the soldiers sent to investigate is Yoji Itami, a 33-year-old otaku officer who is anything but a typical soldier. Leading his unit into the newly discovered world, he sets out to scout nearby villages and assess the situation beyond the gate.
What awaits them is not only danger... but the sight of fantastical races and beautiful girls straight out of a dream.
Thus begins the unprecedented encounter between modern military force and a medieval fantasy world, where guns meet dragons and diplomacy clashes with magic.

MAINRory Mercury (ロゥリィ·マーキュリー Rorī Mākyurī) is a demigoddess and an apostle of Emroy, the god of darkness, war, violence and death. Despite her antediluvian age, she has the appearance of a 13-year-old girl. Along similar lines, despite her delicate, petite frame, she is widely known as Rory the Reaper due to her wielding of her halberd as a scythe, slaughtering those who offend Emroy, and those she views worthy of being punished by death. Her Gothic Lolita dress is an outfit for priestesses. In terms of age, she is the third youngest Apostle of the Twelve Apostles.

MAINLelei La Lalena (レレイ・ラ・レレーナ Rerei Ra Rerēna), alternatively romanized as Lelei La Rellena, is one of the protagonists of Gate - Thus the JSDF Fought There. A member of a nomadic tribe called the Rurudo, she is an archmage and sorceress of the human race, the disciple of Cato El Altestan, the elder sage.

MAINThe whole village was destroyed by the attack of an ancient dragon and thanks to the sacrifice of her father, Hodor Marceau, she was the only survivor. She is found by Itami and company, and is taken to the JSDF base at Alnus Hill. However, she has a hard time coping with her father's loss and eventually starts viewing Itami as a replacement for him, much to his chagrin.

SUPPORTINGPiña Co Lada (ピニャ・コ・ラーダ, Pinya Ko Rāda) is the 19-year-old daughter of the Emperor Molt Sol Augustus and his concubine, Countess Nell. She has two brothers, Zorzal El Caesar and Diabo El Caesar both of whom were candidates for the next Emperor. She is also the leader of Rose-Order of Knights. Realizing at an early stage the impossibly huge gap of strength between the Empire and Japan, she chooses to ally herself with the JSDF to stop war and protect her home country.
