Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens

ナギ

Nagi (ナギ), born on March 21, is a goddess who wakes up after years of slumber with Jin's unexpected help. When she first awakens, she seems to have lost all her former memories. Even forgetting that her other half, Kannagi, met Jin. Her mission as a deity is to cleanse the impurities of the world, but as her powers have weakened over time due to her sacred tree being cut down, her body is easily harmed by them. To strengthen her powers, she tries to raise herself up to an idol status. Often being praised for her beauty and her "kind" personality, which she shows through her excellent acting ability. Her great acting ability almost fooled Jin into thinking she actually had a split personality that spoke in a gentler and more polite tone. She ends up having to do it with the help of Jin and brandishing an improvised exorcist staff created using a magical girl-themed toy baton, which Jin gave to satisfy her. It is revealed early in the story that her sister is Zange, who is possessing Hakua's body. She was created when the tree, Kannagi, was split in half. When she is in her normal personality, she is mischievous and child like, maybe to the point of being a tsundere. Nagi is also noted for her board-like chest. She is often compared to the other bustier heroines because of this and even shows a slight complex. In the manga, it's revealed that she used to have a lover who she deeply cared for, but due to tragic circumstances he became an "impurity". Nagi is shown to care for Jin a lot. It is strongly implied they have romantic feelings for each other. Nagi often gets jealous of the other heroines in the story because they are her so called love rivals.

ざんげ

Zange (ざんげ), born on April 10, is another goddess and Nagi's twin sister. Unlike Nagi's, Zange's tree is still intact and located in a church's courtyard, thus she is still able to catch and cleanse impurities by herself. The fact that she switched her character to that of a Catholic nun, as it is a stronger religion nowadays according to her, contributed to her divinity staying intact. Despite seemingly being kind and caring on the outside, she usually takes advantage of Nagi's weakened state to torment her. The word zange in Japanese means "penitence" or "confession."

青葉つぐみ

Tsugumi Aoba (青葉 つぐみ, Aoba Tsugumi) is Jin's childhood friend who harbors a crush on him. She is concerned about Jin living alone with another girl despite Nagi fabricating a story about being his half-sister.

御厨仁

Jin Mikuriya (御厨 仁, Mikuriya Jin) inadvertently brings Nagi back to life after using a part of a fallen sacred tree to make a sculpture of a girl. Since then, Nagi has lived in his house, and she counts on his help to hunt down the impurities (as he is able to catch them with his bare hands), a task impossible for Nagi herself due to her weakened state. Later, when Nagi was frustrated by being uncertain about her own identity, Jin decides to assist Nagi to trace back her origin. He enjoys Worcestershire sauce on a slice of bread or a bowl of rice. He starts developing feelings for Nagi later on.

Daitetsu Hibiki (響 大鉄, Hibiki Daitetsu) Daitetsu Hibiki is Jin's friend and a member of the art club. Jin hopes to be as talented as him in art. Despite his imposing figure, he has a love for cats.

秋葉巡

Meguru Akiba (秋葉 巡, Akiba Meguru) Akiba is one of the three male members of the art club. He claims to have joined the art club instead of the manga club because he could not stand the otaku behavior of its members, although Akiba is quite the otaku himself. He dedicated himself to drawing manga.
