Ruri Gokou (五更 瑠璃, Gokō Ruri), also known as Kuroneko (黒猫, lit. "black cat"), is one of the main characters of the series. She's an avid anime fan and a Chūnibyō who claims to have supernatural powers, inspired by her favorite anime Maschera: Lament of a Fallen Beast. She's very skilled at several things, but she doesn't automatically success in everything she tries, in contrast to Kirino.

高坂京介

He has a distant relationship with his sister Kirino, who always treats him rudely. Feeling that this will never change, he adapts to her attitude by changing how he thinks of his sister, treating her like an acquaintance.

高坂桐乃

Kirino Kōsaka (高坂 桐乃, Kōsaka Kirino) is the main heroine of the series. Kirino is Kyousuke's younger sister and the youngest of the two siblings of the Kousaka family. She is an overachiever who seemingly lives a perfect life and is idolized by almost everybody. However, she keeps a big secret from her family — she is an avid otaku and a fan of adult-rated games, especially those involving brother-sister dynamics.

槇島沙織

Saori Makishima (槇島 沙織, Makishima Saori), also known as Saori Bajeena (沙織・バジーナ, Saori Bajīna), is a primary character in the series. She's an avid fan of the otaku culture and comes from a wealthy family, which allows her to expends tons of money into her otaku hobbies and isn't afraid to abuse of her money to please herself and her friends. Her two personalities, Makishima and Bajeena, are always represented for presence or absence of her glasses.

田村麻奈実

Manami Tamura (田村 麻奈実, Tamura Manami) is one of the main characters in the series. She is Kyousuke's childhood best friend and classmate. She is described as a 'plain' and "normal" girl, which contrast to the rest of the girls' personalities. Kyousuke always relays on her when he needs help. Kirino hates her and blames her for multiple things in her life, but despite Kirino's thoughts, Manami meets and becomes friends with the rest of the girls, especially Ayase and Kanako.

五更珠希

Tamaki Gokou (五更 珠希, Gokou Tamaki) is the youngest of the three Gokou siblings. Because of her young age, she is always in the constant care of her older sister Ruri. Unlike Ruri, who is an avid fan of Maschera, Tamaki likes to watch Stardust Witch Meruru, and owns a stuffed doll of Comet-kun, Meruru's constant companion, made for her by Ruri.

赤城瀬菜

Sena Akagi (赤城 瀬菜, Akagi Sena) is a primary/secondary character in the series. She is Akagi's younger sister and Ruri's classmate. She is a smart and responsable student and was elect as her class' president, but even if she's known by many as an aloof character at school, Sena is actually and avid and secret-ish fujoshi who has problems keeping her fantasies inside her head.

高坂佳乃

Yoshino Kōsaka (高坂 佳乃, Kōsaka Yoshino) is Kirino and Kyousuke's loving mother and Daisuke's wife. Compared to her strict and unapproachable husband, Yoshino is carefree and has a more positive way of supporting her children.

三浦絃之介

Gennosuke Miura (三浦 絃之介, Miura Gennosuke) is the president of the Games Research Club. His favorite game genre is eroge. He is a fan of an unknown fictional character (presumably from eroge) called Fana-tan; he owns a merchandise jacket and decorated his bike with her design. He is known to smell and sometimes not take a bath. He also works at developing games. He made a brief cameo at comiket before his proper appearance.

真壁楓

Kaede Makabe (真壁 楓, Makabe Kaede) is a second year student of Chiba Benten High School and a member of the school's Games Research Club. He appears to act as an assistant to the club's president Gennosuke Miura, and has once become the club representative in the school's club recruitment day.
