Saga disguised himself as the Pope and was the first Gold Saint that Masami Kurumada introduced in his manga along with Leo Aiolia, although their rank wasn't revealed until later volumes. In his first appearance, Saga presided the event in which Pegasus Seiya acquired the status of Saint. In the anime adaptation, he was introduced in identical manner, in episode 1.

Athena reincarnates once every 200 years to prevent evil from dominating the world. She is the symbol of justice for all Saints. She appeared at the foot of her statue in her temple at her birth. In the manga, Saori is always aware that she is the reincarnation of Athena. However, in the anime, she eventually discovers her true identity after fighting alongside the steel knights.

For its beauty, other gods feared that jealousy would put an end to the peace that reigned among them, beginning a war; for this reason Zeus married her to Hephaestus, who was not seen as a threat. Aphrodite had many lovers, both gods like Ares as deadly as Anchises. The goddess was also of crucial importance to the legend of Eros and Psyche, and was described in subsequent reports of his myth, both as a lover of Adonis as her adoptive mother. Several other characters from Greek mythology were described as children.

シュラ

Shura belongs to the fabled rank of Gold Saint hierarchy among the other 12 Gold Saints. His Guardian Star is of the Zodiac sign of Capricornus. Shura is the Gold Saint that underwent some modifications in his ideology when the manga was adapted to animation. While the anime series shows Shura as being the most loyal Saint to Athena, Kurumada depicted in his manga a Capricorn Saint that at first was somewhat reluctant, but short moments before his death, rediscovered his loyalty to Athena, and remained faithful to her even after his death. According to the manga, Shura, just like Cancer Deathmask and Pisces Aphrodite, knew that Gemini Saga was behind the Pope's mask but he still was obeying his orders. As he says in his fight against Shiryu, he doesn't believe anyone fights for a god anymore, so he doesn't care about fighting for Athena. He considered that those with power, were automatically qualified to be judged just. He thought that the Pope, even being evil, using that power, could use it for some good.
