Rena is a girl living in Expel. From young, she has always believed strongly in the legend of the Warrior of Light and believed that one day he will appear before her.
Then one day, the Sorcery Globe fell upon the planet of Expel, causing chaos to the planet. One day, Rena met Claude when she was at the Shingo Forest, who had saved her from a monster with a weapon that shoots a dazzling light.
Rena had believed that Claude was the Warrior of Light in the legend, but Claude had denied it. Despite that, the both of them set off together towards Eluria, where the Sorcery Globe fell, in-order to investigate it, meeting new people and gaining new allies on the way.

MAINRena Lanford is a villager from the village of Arlia on the planet Expel. She is one of two possible starting characters, the other being Claude Kenni. Rena lives with her adoptive mother, Westa. Her adoptive father, whose name is never mentioned, died in Rena's youth. Rena is the biological daughter of Reema, Director of the Heraldry Weapons Laboratory of Milocinia. Her biological father is unknown. Additionally, Rena has an aunt through Westa, Rachel.

MAINCeline Jules is a skilled sorceress from the village of Mars. She is first seen in Cross Castle, listening to a public audience between the King of the Kingdom of Cross, Claude, and Rena. After the audience, the party finds Celine in the middle of a dispute with a mage over a Treasure Map, which Celine wins. Celine becomes a temporary party member while the party follows the map through Cross Cave. Upon completion, Celine may be permanently admitted to the party or rejected.

MAINAshton is one of three "secret" characters included by the developers, along with Opera Vectra and Ernest Raviede. Unlike other possible party members, the methods to acquire Ashton, Opera, and Ernest are especially opaque. Acquiring Ashton will permanently preclude Opera and Ernest from joining the party, while acquiring Opera and Ernest will preclude Ashton. Thus a player must choose Ashton or the other two, or none at all.
