Sword Art Online: Phantom Bullet

Kirito was chosen to be one of the one thousand beta testers for the closed beta of Sword Art Online, the first ever Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) for the NerveGear, and later joined the official version of the game. He thus became one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online, where he remained a solo player for the majority of the game, willingly taking on the role of a Beater to reduce discrimination against other former beta testers, as well as actively taking part in Boss battles as one of the Clearers. Kirito temporarily became a member of the Moonlit Black Cats after helping them safely escape a dangerous dungeon, but returned to being a solo player when a fatal error resulted in the death of the other guild members. At some point in the game, Kirito became known as the «Black Swordsman» (黒の剣士, Kuro no Kenshi) due to his tendency to wear black clothing. Near the end of the game, Kirito joined the Knights of the Blood due to losing a wager with its leader, Heathcliff. Kirito eventually put an end to the game by defeating the final boss, thus clearing the game.

After Sword Art Online was cleared, Asuna transferred her SAO avatar to ALfheim Online and began playing the game as an Undine. Due to her tendency to charge into battle with a rapier despite being a healer, she has earned the nickname «Berserk Healer» (バーサクヒーラー, Bāsaku Hīrā). Asuna has also created an alternative avatar, the Sylph «Erika» (エリカ, Erika), as she sometimes wanted to change her appearance.

ユイ

Yui had long, dark hair and bright black eyes. Her default equipment consisted of a one-piece white dress with a ribbon tied around her waist. She temporarily wore a long-sleeved pink sweater and a purple skirt, as well as red shoes (brown boots in the anime), during her time with Kirito and Asuna.

Suguha has short black hair and dark grey eyes, almost blackish. Her breasts are very large, even compared to other members of the female cast, although she has grown a lot recently. She also has a cute childish look.

篠崎里香

Rika has brown hair in the real world and she used to have brown hair in the early days of Sword Art Online,, until she later customized it to pink with a white hairpin (red in a light novel volume 2 colored illustration). In Sword Art Online, Lisbeth's eyes are dark blue (dark pink in the anime). Her blacksmith uniform looks more like the uniform of a waitress: a dark red top with puffed sleeves and a flared skirt of the same color, combined with a pure white apron on top of it, as well as a red ribbon atop her chest. In both the game world and the real world, she has small freckles on her cheeks.

ダイン

Dyne has a large, rock-solid body, a rough face with a mustache. Dyne wears brown boots and gauntlets, a red scarf, a yellow cowboy hat, a yellow coat and brown pants. During the third Bullet of Bullets (BoB), he was wearing woodland-patterned clothing. Dyne uses a rare «SIG SG550» assault rifle that shoots 5.56mm caliber bullets.

ベヒモス

Behemoth first appeared wearing a camouflage cloak and coat, which hid his equipment from the view of other players, while massive goggles covered his face and hid his expression. He has a huge body, broad shoulders, is nearly 2 meters tall and seemed to be wearing a large backpack at first, but this turned out to be his GE M134 Minigun, connected to a large capacity ammunition box via a belt. Unlike the other members of the Mob hunting party he was in, his lips were tight, without a slightest movement and he was walking slowly and silently in the back, giving off a feeling of pressure to an experienced player like Sinon. In battle, he forms a fierce smile. After Sinon's shot hits his goggles, it is revealed that he has grey eyes, blazing with light, as he formed another fearless smile, and that he has a rough face.

ギンロウ

Ginrou has mohawk-style light brown hair. He wears a tight, dark top, green trousers, brown boots, black fingerless gloves and white goggles Ginrou's weapon of choice is a live ammo type «H&K UMP» sub-machine gun.
