Baby Steps

丸尾栄一郎

Eiichirō Maruo (丸尾 栄一郎, Maruo Eiichirō), also called Ei-chan (エーちゃん) by his friends, is the main protagonist of Baby Steps. He is the son of Kazuya Maruo and Sanae Maruo who later becomes a member of Southern Tennis Club on his mother's suggestion to fulfill his lack of exercise where his current aim is to become a professional tennis player.

鷹崎奈津

Natsu Takasaki (鷹崎 奈津 Takasaki Natsu) is a member of Southern Tennis Club who is in the same year where she attends the same high school as Eiichirō Maruo and she is aiming to become a professional player.

影山小次郎

Kojirou Kageyama (影山 小次郎, Kageyama Kojirō) is the friend of Eiichiro Maruo at Oosugi High School and one of the first characters to appear in the manga who attends most of Ei-Chan's tennis matches and admires Natsu Takasaki, the school idol.

Megumi Nakajou (中城 めぐみ Nakajō Megumi) is a freshman high schooler and a very skilled tennis player who won the All-Japan in middle school.

Hisashi Kanda (神田 久志 Kanda Hisashi) is a young tennis player from the Kyushu region who attended the Illustrious Yanase High School where he was the 5th seed of the first All Japan Junior Tournament.
