Tamaki Kawazoe

川添珠姫

Tamaki Kawazoe ( 川添 珠姫 | Kawazoe Tamaki ) is one of the main protagonists of Bamboo Blade. She is a proud member of the Muroe High School Kendo Team. She also practices Kendo at home as well. She comes off as a pretty kind person and is known by friends as Tama-Chan. She lives with her seen but unnamed father and Tsubaki Kawazoe (Tamaki's mother) died when Tamaki was young. She goes to Muroe High School and practices Kendo at home. Even though she is young she is one of the best Kendo fighters at school. She is known as Tama-chan by her friends.

Kirino Chiba

千葉紀梨乃

Described as being the heart of the group, Kirino is a bubbly and energetic girl. She is intelligent and in the top twenty of her class. No matter how terrible a situation is she will find a bright side. She always does her best to keep everyone on the team motivated and happy. However, if she is suffering, she will hide it from others and keep up a brave face, something that Sayako Kuwahara scolds her about.

Miyako Miyazaki

Miyako Miyazaki (宮崎 都 Miyazaki Miyako), also known by her nickname Miya-Miya, is a first year at Muroe High, a member of the kendo club and the girlfriend of Danjūrō Eiga.

Satori Azuma

東聡莉

Azuma is a clumsy and easily flustered person who has difficulty keeping concentration, which causes her to make small careless mistakes often. Her grades are awful since she makes many small flaws in her work that quickly add up. However, once she starts kendo again she is able to focus better and, with tutoring from some of the other members, her grades improve.

Toraji Ishida

Also known as "Kojirō", he is the kendo instructor, and also a teacher of politics and economics, at Muroe High School. He is perpetually impoverished and lives from paycheck to paycheck, often taking handouts of food from his students. He is offered the chance of a lifetime from an old senpai -- a year's supply of sushi if his female kendo team can beat his senpai's in a practice tournament. Kojirō's parents own a convenience store, but it is revealed that they used to own a store that sold sake. In high school, he was a member of the kendo club, and at that time he defeated his senpai, Kenzaburō, at a tournament to win a trophy. Though he has little affinity for the trophy itself, he cherishes the memory of his victory over Kenzaburō -- though he told Kenzaburō his victory was due to luck, he personally believes he won was because he was stronger than his senpai.

Sayako Kuwahara

桑原鞘子

Sayako is a spontaneous person who is constantly searching for her calling in life. She switches between hobbies and interests at the drop of a hat, usually because she becomes discouraged from her progress in it and believes it’s not for her. The only things that she has stuck with are kendo and writing.

Akemi’s mood depends largely on her relationship with her boyfriend as her phone is always either in her hand or nearby that she is always waiting on a text or call. She constantly ditches practice to go on dates, something that the rest of the team has gotten used to and ignores. Whenever she is having a problem with her boyfriend she will become upset and lose any sort of motivation to do kendo, causing her to go on a lazy defense during matches. However, when she is happy she will put in all her effort and becomes a formidable opponent.

Karen Nishiyama

西山佳恋

Karen is a very timid person who becomes nervous easily, even when around people she knows well. Due to her anxiousness she is often seen shaking or trying to run away from stressful situations. Despite being the strongest on her team, she is afraid that it is rude to fight people she does not know. That, added to the pressure of wanting her team to win, causes her to be nervous and hesitate to attack during matches. However, if she is cornered, she instinctively switches to offense and reveals her top notch reflexes and skill.
