Kou Yamori (夜 (ヤ) 守 (モリ) コウ, Yamori Kō) is the main protagonist of Call of the Night. He is a middle school student who began skipping classes to venture around his home city Komori late at night. Since he first began roaming around, Kou befriended Nazuna Nanakusa, a vampire whom he intended to develop romantic feelings for in order to be able to be turned into a vampire by her. His close time with Nazuna caught the attention of a group of vampires, led by Nico Hirata, who confirmed that Kou would be assassinated if he were not to become a vampire within a year. However, Kou and Nazuna succeeded in befriending each of them within a couple of months. Throughout his insomnia nights, he had came across more friends he had ever had before, and eventually, Kou encountered Anko Uguisu, a detective who sought to eliminate all vampires.

七草ナズナ

Nazuna Nanakusa (七 (ナナ) 草 (クサ) ナズナ, Nanakusa Nazuna) is a carefree vampire from birth who was raised by Kabura Honda before attending a night school, where she met and befriended Kyouko Mejiro. By the time she chose to live a life by her own presence, Nazuna encountered Kou Yamori, a night roaming middle schooler in Komori, whose blood tasted astonishingly delicious. In an exchange for spending time with Kou every night and drinking his blood, Kou intended to fall in love with Nazuna to become a vampire himself, a topic that discomforted Nazuna.
