The kingdom of Deltora is turned upside down when the King and Queen both die mysteriously and their young son, Endon, is given the Belt of Deltora and pronounced kind. Endon's best friend, the orphaned Jarred, then discovers a plot to strike at the royal household from within! Before he can warn his new kind, Jarred is accused of murder and barely escapes the castle with his life, but this does not stop the intrepid warrior from pledging his allegiance to Endon and the Kingdom of Deltora. Now, with the nefarious Shadow Lord's army preparing for invasion, Deltora has never needed Jarred more—will he answer the call?

Jasmine is the fourteenth known royal consort and current queen of Deltora, and is the wife of King Lief. While younger she was a wild girl growing up in the Forests of Silence, and because of this she is capable of understanding and speaking to animals and trees. Her closest friends are the raven Kree and a Siskis named Filli. Jasmine is the daughter of Jarred and Anna and the mother of Princess Anna, Prince Jarred and Prince Endon.

Lief is the fourteenth known monarch and the current king of Deltora, and the husband of Queen Jasmine. He is the son of King Endon and Queen Sharn. Lief grew up in the over one thousand year old blacksmith's forge in Del, in Topaz territory and is of the Del tribe. He spent sixteen years in the forge. He did not know of his true nature as heir to the Deltoran throne as his parents and their close friends, Jarred and Anna, switched places. The ancient forge in Del that had been his home had also been the home and workplace of Adin, Deltora's first king, and where he forged the Belt of Deltora.

Barda is a man of the Del tribe and is the current captain of palace guards in the city of Del. He is the son of the late Min and the husband of Lindal of Broome, with whom he has six unnamed children who all look alike.

MAINDain was a Resistance member, revealed to be a Grade 3 Ol tasked with infiltrating Lief's quest as a decoy heir to the throne at the direction of the Shadow Lord. Taking the form of a Toran boy near Lief's age, Dain joined the resistance and earned the trust of the companions over various encounters through the quest. As a final plan in case the Belt of Deltora was restored, Dain ultimately tricked the companions into thinking he was the heir and tried to sabotage the quest, but was killed by Lief and the Belt in a final confrontation in Del.

SUPPORTINGNeridah was a young Deltoran woman whom Lief, Barda and Jasmine briefly encountered in their travels to restore the Belt of Deltora. She later became a member of the Resistance. Eventually she succumbed to her greedy nature, when she tried to steal the Diamond from the Guardian, and as a result its power caused her to drown in a stream.
