日暮かごめ

Kagome Higurashi (日暮（ひぐらし） かごめ, "Birdcage (first name), Sunset (family name)") is the modern day reincarnation of the feudal era miko, Kikyō, and the narrator and heroine of the series. She was unknowingly born with the legendary Shikon no Tama inside her body until the day of her 15th birthday, when a yōkai pulled her into her family's sacred well, taking her roughly five hundred years back in time, and later extracted the newly reborn gem from her. After she accidentally shattered the jewel into hundreds of fragments that disperse all throughout Japan. Kagome, along with the hanyō Inuyasha, had to recover all the shards of the Jewel before they fall into the evil influence of the evil mastermind Naraku, meeting several allies and enemies in the process. In the ending, soon after Naraku's defeat, she married Inuyasha and lived forever with him in the past.

弥勒

Miroku (弥（み）勒（ろく）, "Maitreya") is a hōshi who traveled with Inuyasha, Kagome, Shippō, and Sango. His paternal grandfather was cursed fifty years ago by Naraku, leading to the creation of the Kazaana, which was destined to be passed down to all of his male descendants, including Miroku himself.

雲母

Kirara is originally the companion of Midoriko, the miko who created the Shikon no Tama, suggesting that she is far older than she seemed, which made her the oldest member of Inuyasha's group. Sometime later, she became Shako's family companion, was passed down by Shako to Sango's father, and then by Sango's father to Sango when she was still very young.

菖蒲

She later grows up and comes after Kōga, saying that her grandfather was going to marry her off to another wolf demon but she chose him since he promised, is very persistent, and tries to use force several times on him. When Kōga says that he will only marry a woman who can sense the Shikon Jewel shards (as a way to get rid of her), she announces that she will train herself to sense them like Kagome, though Miroku makes it clear that it is probably impossible.

睡骨

Suikotsu (睡骨（すいこつ）, "Sleep Skill/Bone") was a member of the Shichinintai. Like the others, he loved carnage and killing; however, unlike them, he had a split personality. This personality was that of a kind-hearted doctor, who may have been the original personality until a traumatic event caused the birth of his other, more bloodthirsty, personality.

悟心鬼

Goshinki (悟心鬼（ごしんき）, "Perceiving Minds") was a large, horned ogre yōkai with the ability to read minds. He was the third incarnation of the spider-hanyō Naraku, created with the only purpose of destroying Inuyasha's sword, the powerful Tessaiga, when he was still badly wounded by his older sister Kanna.
