Edward Elric (エドワード・エルリック, Edowādo Erurikku), commonly shortened to just Ed (エド,, Edo), is the titular main protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He is the older brother of Alphonse Elric. Once he became a State Alchemist, he was given the official title of Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師,, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi), which became a second nickname for him that is often shortened to just Fullmetal.

Alphonse Elric

アルフォンス・エルリック

Alphonse Elric (アルフォンス・エルリック, Arufonsu Erurikku), commonly shortened to just Al (アル, Aru), is the deuteragonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He is the younger brother of Edward Elric. Al is also a victim of a failed Human Transmutation experiment to bring back his late mother, which ultimately resulted in his brother losing his left leg and right arm and Alphonse his entire body. Before it left completely, Edward managed to alchemically bind Alphonse's soul to a large suit of armour via a blood seal.
