MAINKengo Akechi (明智 健悟) is a police superintendent acting as Isamu Kenmochi and Tadano's superior. Akechi is a rival of sorts for Kindaichi, but they both share a mutual respect for each other. Along with Kindaichi and Yoichi Takato, he's one of the very few characters to be a protagonist. Akechi is the protagonist of the spin-off Akechi Case Files and Inspector Akechi Case Files.

MAINReika Hayami (速水 玲香 (はやみ れいか) Hayami Reika) is Hajime Kindaichi's friend, favorite idol and singer. First appeared in Death TV, she later becomes Hajime's close friend and possible love interest. After her debut, she becomes one of the recurring characters in the series.
