Ritsuka Aoyagi

青柳立夏

Ristuka often takes photographs or "makes memories" because of his fear of forgetting people and being forgotten. Later in the series, his friend from his previous school, Osamu, states that Ritsuka used to be in a photography club in his old school, with Ritsuka usually taking pictures of people while Osamu takes pictures of flowers and plants.

Yuiko Hawatari

羽渡唯子

Hawatari Yuiko (羽渡唯子 Hawatari Yuiko) is Ritsuka Aoyagi's classmate. At 5ft 5inch cm tall, Yuiko is much taller than Ritsuka and her other classmates and because of this and her mature, endowed figure, she is often mistaken for being older than she actually is. Despite her ditsy and bubbly exterior, she is sharp and goodhearted, though Ritsuka initially thought her annoying. Ritsuka also stated that he doesn't like people that are being used by others, which happens to Yuiko in the first episode.

Yayoi Shioiri

塩入弥生

Yayoi Shioiri (塩入弥生 Shioiri Yayoi) is a classmate of Ritsuka Aoyagi. Yayoi is thirteen years old. He is shown as being socially awkward and with low self-esteem, and feels great jealousy towards Ritsuka. Yayoi admits that he loves Yuiko Hawatari, but when he confessed to her he was rejected. Yuiko claims her reason was that she only dates boys taller than her, but the truthfulness of that statement is called into question when it is painfully obvious she loves Ritsuka, who is just as short as Yayoi. Despite his jealousy of Ritsuka's close friendship with Yuiko, he is encouraged by Ritsuka's adamant claims that their relationship is purely platonic. He makes a firm statement he will not give up on Yuiko, and spends more time with her than ever. It is notable that in the manga, Yayoi has a rather small role. He is absent for large parts of the story, and has only a small amount of dialogue. In the anime, they utilized his character much more to enhance the would-be love triangle of Yayoi + Yuiko + Ritsuka, and to inject comic relief into a dark story.

Soubi Agatsuma

我妻草灯

Not much is known about Soubi's background. He lost both of his parents when he was six years old, and enrolled in Shichisei Gakuen (Seven Moons Academy), a school for Fighters, some time after. In the Seven Moons Academy, he became the student of Ritsu Minami, who was said to have been the Sacrifice of Soubi's mother (which was why they met).

Seimei Aoyagi

青柳清明

Seimei Aoyagi (青柳清明 Aoyagi Seimei) is the older brother of Ritsuka Aoyagi. He was born on the 14th of November, and his name comes from the lunar day “Seimei”. When he was seventeen, he was found murdered in Ritsuka’s classroom at school, although he could only be identified by his dental records as he had been set on fire. Later in the series we learn Seimei faked his death, but the person who died in his place has not been revealed.
