Nichijou

相生祐子

Yuuko Aioi (相生 祐子, Aioi Yūko), also known by her nickname Yukko (ゆっこ), is the main protagonist of Nichijou. She is an energetic high school student with short brown hair. Throughout both the manga and anime series, negative things sometimes happen to Yuuko, even if they logically shouldn't, but she always regains her spirit. When negative things happen to her, Yuuko is comforted by a dog named Buddy, implying a possible spiritual connection between the two. She lives in the Aioi Household.

阪本

Sakamoto (阪本) is a black cat that was found by Nano and Hakase. Sakamoto is able to speak while wearing a red scarf made by Hakase. He is older than both Nano and Hakase (20 years old in cat years), and prefers to be called "Sakamoto-san" to emphasize his authority. He lives in the Shinonome Lab.

長野原みお

Mio Naganohara (長野原 みお, Naganohara Mio) is a bright and cheerful girl sporting light blue hair and pigtails held by two small wooden cubes. She is a high school student who more 'normal' in contrast to her friends Yuuko Aioi and Mai Minakami. She is often the voice of reason and normalcy, but she has a very short temper and is often prone to tantrums. She lives in the Naganohara Household. She has hidden crush on Koujirou Sasahara, who she can get very impassioned by.

東雲なの

Nano Shinonome (東雲 なの, Shinonome Nano) is a humanoid android created by Professor Shinonome (or simply Hakase), who lives with her and Sakamoto and manages the Shinonome household. She is constantly being upgraded by Hakase without prior knowledge or approval, which is a running gag. This leads to strange situations, that Nano worries might reveal her identity as a robot to others, particularly her classmates. She lives in the Shinonome Lab.

水上麻衣

Mai Minakami (水上 麻衣, Minakami Mai) is a quiet and unpredictable girl who is also very intelligent, and is a high school student who is close friends with Mio Naganohara and Yuuko Aioi. She is seen to be multi-talented, excelling at using projectiles, fishing, wood carving, arm wrestling, modeling, and especially pranking.

東雲はかせ

Hakase Shinonome is a young scientist who has outstanding intelligence, but still reflects her age in her childish behavior. Her true name is unknown, as the word "Hakase" simply means "Professor". She lives in the Shinonome Lab.

高崎学

Manabu Takasaki (高崎 学, Takasaki Manabu) is a 26-year-old male teacher at Tokisadame High School who teaches Japanese Literature to students. He takes teaching seriously and presents a collected front, but he can be overly passionate and overwhelmed when his personal affairs become involved.

中村かな

Kana Nakamura (中村 かな, Nakamura Kana) is a school science teacher at the Tokisadame Highschool. Nakamura is fixated on Nano Shinonome's robotic nature, constantly scheming to capture Nano for her studies, but her machinations invariably backfire. She also is not always on top of things as she should be, seeing how she drank a cup of drugged coffee on two different occasions (which were for Nano to drink) and later missing her chance to experiment on Nano.

邑楽耕介

Kousuke Oura is the vice principal of Tokisadame Highschool. He is also known as Kyoutou-sensei. He is a calm man who takes things seriously, but he hides his negativity about his uneventful and lonesome life. He isn't too friendly, and can be rather sneaky in making the Principal uncomfortable with pranks. It is a running gag that the principal is paranoid that he will take his job.

玉村

Tamamura (玉村) is a recurring character and employee of Daiku Cafe as a cashier. She, just like Izumi Sakurai, tends to sweat when embarrassed or impatient. She is also easily frightened and doesn't seem very sure of herself. She has long blond hair and dark blue eyes, wearing a Cafe uniform of a green apron, a white dress-shirt and a name tag. Outside of Daiku Cafe, she's also seen working at the publishing department that picks up Mio's manga and another Daiku-owned meat shop.
