Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

糸色望

Itoshiki Nozomu is the protagonist of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and the teacher of a class of 32 students. His name contains an unlucky number of characters, and when written horizontally, his name forms the kanji for "zetsubou".

風浦可符香

Furura Kafuka is student No. 15 of Class 2-F. An extremely positive student that finds something positive about every situation or denies the anything bad is happening at all. She accidentally creates cults a few times and some people see her as a goddess from her sayings. Rarely she can be seen with a dark look on her eyes when she says something a little depressing. Some of her lines imply there's something dark about her past.

小森霧

Komori Kiri is student #20 of class 2-F. She is a hikikomori, a shut-in. Kiri now currently resides in an unused classroom after Nozomu visits her house in an attempt to get her to come to school. She also occasionally shows up in a number of random enclosed spaces, often wrapping herself with a blanket. Her name in eastern order is derived from komorikiri, meaning "it stays at home", and in western order her name sounds similar to hikikomori.

音無芽留

Otonashi Meru is student no. 16 of class 2-F. Meru is a quiet girl who can only communicate with others via texting and e-mail. However, the contents of her messages are usually vicious. She has an overprotective father.

Chie Arai Voice: Akiko Yajima A school counselor and Nozomi's colleague. She is made to listen to Nozomi's trivial questions, explains terms like psychology, and acts as the homeroom teacher when Nozomi goes missing. Always calm and collected, his eyes are intimidating when angry, and he speaks when he speaks out. She also has a nice body. These traits can sometimes lead to a queenly side of SM. She gets angry when her age is mentioned. Her true identity is an organ transplant coordinator.

加賀愛

Kaga Ai, student no. 18 of class 2-F who has a complex of guilt. She happens to have the same number as Kaere. Her name is a play on the word kagai which means harm. This refers to her guilt complex about doing harm to others. Most of the time everything she does isn't harmful. She just thinks doing something is bothering everyone.

糸色命

Mikoto Itoshiki is the older brother of Nozomu Itoshiki. Mikoto is a doctor at the private Itoshiki Clinic. He is the third child of the Itoshiki family and has a great resemblance to Nozomu.

久藤准

Jun is a "Genius Storyteller"; there is no story he can't tell. His stories usually drive other characters to tears even though some of his stories have a mocking purpose. Kino considers him his rival even though he doesn't seem to care. Student no. 9 of class 2-F
