Astro Boy

In the distant year 2003, Japan is a technological utopia, and robots are everywhere. One such robot, Tobio, was built by the brilliant Dr. Tenma to replace his dead son. But when it soon becomes apparent that Tobio is an imperfect copy of his departed child, Dr. Tenma throws him out. He is rescued from the scrap heap by the benevolent Professor Ochanomizu, a crusader for robot civil rights. Now the little robot, renamed Astro Boy, is given a mission to defend Japan and the world from all manner of sinister threats. Using his seven super-abilities and 100,000 horsepower worth of strength to battle evil, Astro hopes to set an example to the world of the good which all robots are capable of.

SUPPORTINGUran is Astro's younger sister and a major recurring protagonist in the Astro Boy franchise. She was created by Professor Ochanomizu, based off Astro's own blueprints, and presented to Astro as a birthday gift, or New Year's gift, depending on which series. Uran often finds herself getting into trouble and causing trouble for Astro. She possesses a part of Astro's strength but none of his combat powers, and her most common power is the ability to talk with animals. Due to how closely she resembles her brother, Uran is very rarely a player in the Osamu Tezuka Star System, and mainly appears in the numerous Astro Boy series.

SUPPORTINGOsamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫; November 3, 1928 - February 9, 1989) was a Japanese author, artist, animator, producer, director, medical doctor, and activist. He was known as the “Manga no Gaddofaza” - literally meaning "godfather of manga" - and was considered to be the Japanese Walt Disney. His work would lead to him becoming one of the most influential and innovative manga artists and animators of his day. His works would also become some of the most popular manga publications along with spawning some of the world's most well known characters.

SUPPORTINGAcetylene Lamp is a reoccurring character from the Osamu Tezuka Star System. He is a tough, imposing man usually associated with big business or the law. Lamp appears in Tezuka's works mostly as a villain, especially in Astro Boy canon, where he has appeared in almost every series to date.

SUPPORTINGHamegg is a frequent player in the Osamu Tezuka Star System, and a regular antagonist in various Astro Boy series. He usually appears as a shady circus ringleader, the second person to own and raise Astro, and often appears as a general criminal throughout the rest of the series.
