Although Karin gets her looks from her father's side of the family (she is the spitting image of her paternal grandmother, Elda Marker) she has inherited an ample bosom from her mother, much to the chagrin of the flat-chested Elda, who despises her daughter-in-law.

As a child, Kenta was ignored by his maternal grandmother due to the circumstances of his birth. This leads to him being a person who tries to live a life free of prejudice and allows him to sympathize with Karin's unusual nature. Because of that, he falls in love with Karin, despite her being a vampire.

Elda was originally in love with Alfred Sinclair, a human botanist and the ancestor of Winner Sinclair. Alfred's father tried to separate the young couple, believing that vampires and humans could never coexist. Alfred was locked within his house, but escaped to see Elda before the town mob could attack her at her home. When he arrived, the two were trapped inside as several torches started a fire in the house, and Alfred urged Elda to suck some of his blood so that she would have the strength to escape. She did, but also drained Alfred's love for her, whereupon he tried to kill her with a large piece of wood.

She moves into Karin's town at the request of her uncle to seek out the Markers and study Karin. Because she is half-vampire, she can also walk in the sunshine and only has to feed once a month, however she is sterile and will never be able to have children.

Yuuji Kikuchi (菊地 悠司, Kikuchi Yūji) is a character that shows up especially in the manga extras. He's childhood friends with Maki Tokitou and his family owns a public bathhouse, which Kenta Usui and his mother often go to.

For thousands of years she was reborn within the body of a vampire (known as a Psyche, or blood-producer) and forced to have a child to continue the Armash bloodline (the clan which Cecilia, Karin's maternal grandmother, came from). Once the next member of her bloodline was born she would be drained of her blood to help the other vampires reproduce. It was originally believed that the only way to break the curse, according to James, was for the carrier to loose the Armash name. However, this theory was proven false as the curse still continued through James' granddaughter, Karin. Unfortunately as the vampire she was reborn in could not drain the blood of another, they had a limited lifespan and would eventually die, either through the loss of blood or unnaturally short lifespan roughly equal to those of long lived human, becoming part of Sophia's life essence in the process and forcing her to be reborn in the body of another member of the bloodline.

He attempted to drain Karin of her blood so he could restore fertility to the vampires throughout Japan as well as trying to having her forcefully impregnated to ensure the creation of another Psyche but this is thwarted by the Marker family who rescue Karin and prevent anything happening to her. After a fierce battle with Henry Marker (with assistance from his mother Elda Marker), Glark is left behind to die in the sunlight but is luckily saved from being caught in the sun by Yuriya. Afterwards, he contacts Henry to see if they can find a way to use Karin's blood without harming her, but is informed that she is no longer producing excess blood.

When Elda awakened in the storyline, she discovered he had passed away in his sleep, apparently due to his reluctance during his lifetime to drink the blood of humans. He came to Japan to escape the church's vampire hunt and had ensured Elda Marker's well-being after her family was apparently lost.
