Deus Ex Machina is the God of Time and Space and a major character in both the Future Diary manga and anime. He creates the Future Diaries (with the help of John Bacchus) and holds the Survival Game to find a suitable successor to his title before his imminent death causes the destruction of the universe.

雨流みねね

Minene Uryuu (雨流 みねね, Uryū Minene) is the Ninth Diary Holder and possesses the "Escape Diary". She is also the main protagonist of the spin-off Future Diary: Mosaic, which focuses on Minene before and after she gains her Future Diary.

秋瀬或

Aru Akise (秋瀬 或, Akise Aru) is one of Yukiteru Amano's friends, and later becomes one of the main characters of the series. Aru is very intelligent and dreams of being a world famous detective when he gets older. Investigating the connections between Yuki and the diary owners, Aru becomes a close ally to Yuki, but an enemy and rival to Yuno Gasai. Aru quickly grows to love Yuki and wishes for him to become God. He is the main character of the spin-off manga Future Diary: Paradox, where he and Muru Muru replace Yuki and Yuno in the survival game after Muru Muru accidentally kills Yuno Gasai while Yukiteru is injured.

ムルムル

春日野椿

Tsubaki is a slender, attractive girl with red eyes; her irises have a dull luster to represent her poor vision. She has long dark blue hair; some of it is pinned up with a red butterfly-shaped hairpiece or ribbon, while the rest hangs loose, partly covering the right side of her face and reaching her hips in the back. She wears a red-orange kimono tied at the waist by a thick white ribbon.

美神愛

Ai Ikusaba (戦場 愛, Ikusaba Ai), née Ai Mikami (美神 愛 Mikami Ai), is one of the Seventh diary owners, which is shared with Marco Ikusaba (Ai's boyfriend/husband). Devoted to Ikusaba, Ai and Marco share the "Exchange Diary", which the couple uses to keep an eye on each other at all times. They wish to become Gods so they can be together for all eternity.

豊穣礼佑

Reisuke Houjou (豊穣 礼佑, Hōjō Reisuke) is the Fifth diary owner and the youngest of the twelve Diary Holders. Ostensibly appearing as a harmless five-year-old, Reisuke is a master strategist and forces Yukiteru Amano and Yuno Gasai into a deadly chase in Yuki's own house. He is often accompanied with a pair of hand puppets, and owns the "Hyper Vision Diary".

来須圭悟

Keigo Kurusu (来須 圭悟, Kurusu Keigo) is the Fourth diary owner, and initially introduced as an ally to Yukiteru Amano and Yuno Gasai. As the Chief Inspector of Sakurami City's police force, Kurusu uses his "Criminal Investigation Diary" to predict the crimes that he will investigate, using its power to identify other diary owners.

天野礼亜

Rea Amano (天野 礼亜, Amano Rea) is the ex-wife of Kurou Amano and the mother of Yukiteru Amano (the First Diary Holder) who is killed in the second world by her desperate ex-husband because she wanted to take him to the police after she had seen him coming down from the Sakurami Tower with a parachute without Yukiteru.

宮代お鈴

Orin is a young girl with long brown hair and brown eyes. Her most notable feature is how her hair is styled into thick, rectangular strands around her bangs and face.
