This is the sequel to the popular Kindaichi Case Files franchise, set 20 years after the original version! Hajime is no longer a student detective, but is a poor office worker who has to deal with the daily pains of adulthood. No longer wanting to solve cases anymore, he keeps his head down and tries to go about his daily work as quietly as possible.
But crime never takes a break, and it isn't long before Kindaichi gets dragged into cases that occur around him. Starting off the new series, we revisit Uta Island, for the fourth edition of the Opera House Murder Case, where the Phantom of the Opera is planning a bloody revenge.

MAINKengo Akechi (明智 健悟) is a police superintendent acting as Isamu Kenmochi and Tadano's superior. Akechi is a rival of sorts for Kindaichi, but they both share a mutual respect for each other. Along with Kindaichi and Yoichi Takato, he's one of the very few characters to be a protagonist. Akechi is the protagonist of the spin-off Akechi Case Files and Inspector Akechi Case Files.

MAINIsamu Kenmochi (剣持 勇 Kenmochi Isamu) is a Tokyo homicide police inspector with unimpressive deduction skill who first met Hajime Kindaichi in the Opera House Murder Case. He is often the investigating officer on Kindaichi's cases and provides the official stamp of approval Kindaichi often needs to pursue his investigations. He believes fully in Kindaichi's ability.
