In the small village of Amun lives a poor boy named Theo. Theo adores books, but because of his pointed ears and impoverished life, he isn’t allowed to use the village library. As he endures the prejudice and hatred of the village, he dreams of going where such things don’t exist: Aftzaak, City of Books. But one day, Theo chances to meet a Kafna—a librarian who works for the great library of Aftzaak—and his life changes forever…

シオ＝フミス
MAINHe is a mix of Hyron and Haupi, characterized by his golden blond hair and long, pointed ears. He is quite slender and muscular for his age, having worked in Ganan Masonry. On his forehead rests a mark like a four-point star, known as the "Mark of Druuj".
セドナ＝ブルゥ
SUPPORTINGSedona upon arriving in Amun, prior to becoming a Sage, wore the traditional garb of Kafna: a kaachni over their shoulders, a tikeeka hung by the neck, and a lipine over their head. They wore their black hair trailing over the back of their head, and in two bangs over the ears.
サキヤ＝メネス
SUPPORTINGTheo is Sakiya's childhood friend who he had bonded with over books. Due to her father not wanting people from the slums in the library Sakiya would sneak Theo in when he wasn't around and they would read together. As they grew older she started developing feelings for him but he was oblivious of this. When the results of Theo's Kafna test arrived she secretly hoped that he had failed so that he would remain in the village and perhaps work at the library with her and always be by her side forever. She later feels bad about having such thoughts and tearfully sends him off and asks him not to forget about her.

SUPPORTINGA 29-year-old Kokopah and the only male supervisor for the current batch of trainees. Perpetually has a sullen expression, and is thus easily misconstrued as being in a sour mood--a fact that bothers him a little, as that is just how his face naturally is.

SUPPORTINGTutull loves reading - an earnest, simple love that carried this prodigy straight into the life of a Kafna. She consumes new books at an astounding pace, yet takes time to savor the novels she really loves.

SUPPORTINGAt first he had issues with Theo due to his heritage but after being saved by Theo he started to no longer look down on people simply because they were different.

SUPPORTINGTsitzy has a morbid fear of social interaction. She didn't take to cooking, laundry, or sewing but has always loved to write. The strokes of her pen are blindingly swift, and the letterforms left behind are so immaculate and uniform, one might assume they came from type on a press bed.
