Minami-ke

南夏奈

Kana is the second and middle Minami sister, in her second year of middle school. She continues the naming pattern by having summer ("ka" or 夏) in her name. Outwardly, Kana is an impulsive, lively, and air-headed girl, who acts or talks impolitely, much to the annoyance of Chiaki. Like her sisters, she is prone to seemingly logical ideas lacking in common sense, but takes it to the greatest degree by doing it on a regular basis, for instance adding chili peppers to the guests' bathwater to create a sensation of "warmth". She also enjoys teasing Chiaki and pushing her buttons, and is a fairly poor student. Despite appearances, there is evidence that she is far more intelligent than she appears, and she is certainly capable of manipulating the situation and others around her to achieve her goal of maximal entertainment value, for everyone involved, an ability she uses, for instance, when turning Makoto into a cross-dresser. It is implied that she, in fact, shares the family intelligence and would be able to score well in school were she to apply herself. In fact, late in the series, she receives near-perfect on a math test and seems to take it in stride, perhaps indicating a change in habits. However, like Haruka, she seems neither experienced nor skilled romantically. She is a member of the series's only explicitly canon pairing, with Fujioka, but it is persistently unclear whether she has special feelings for him or possesses any idea of his feelings, though there are numerous hints. She is a horrific cook, partly because she is incapable of restraining her urges to "improve" a dish, by for instance adding juice to pancake mix. She does have the ability to cook basic dishes, primarily packaged curry, as long as she doesn't try to go beyond her abilities. She gets carsick as well. She cannot blow bubblegum bubbles. 南千秋

Chiaki is the third and youngest Minami sister. As the third sister, she continues the naming pattern by having autumn ("aki" or 秋) in her name. She is an elementary student in class 5-2 (a reference to Kyou no Gono Ni). She is implied to be an excellent student, and is often seen reading one or another thick textbook. Despite her presumably high intelligence, her young age and lack of experience often lead her to overanalyze simple things. She also continues a proud family tradition by often misapplying logic to reach conclusions that lack common sense, such as deciding to drink water to improve her swimming ability. Her personality is a mixture of snide cynicism beyond her years and childish naivete. Her catchphrase is to call people (especially Kana and Makoto) "bakayarou" (literally, "stupid idiot") and, in Okaeri, to enjoin visitors to her house to "Go home!" when they are annoying her. Her childishness is apparent in her dislike of carrots, peppers, scallions, and other such vegetables—though in the case of carrots, this may have changed. In addition, she is incapable of swimming or dealing with the water, despite repeated attempts to deal with this. She appears to be fond of cola, drinking it on many occasions. She is also ignorant of Strange Things. One Christmas, she receives a stuffed bear which she christens "Fujioka" (not to be confused with Fujioka). She often uses the bear to hide things, or as a missile, usually against Kana. Unlike Kana, she can blow a basic bubblegum bubble. She is implied to be excellent at most board or video games, and destroys or is superior to Kana in every case. Her birthday is between May 1 and October 14, inclusive. Her nickname, especially among classmates, is "hime" (princess).

南春香

Haruka Minami (南 春香 Minami Haruka) is the eldest Minami sister, in her second year of high school. She sustains the naming pattern by having Spring ("Haru" or 春) in her name. She is the core of the family unit and has been taking care of her younger sisters for many years, a fact which has had ramifications on her personality and life. For instance, despite her excellent schoolwork and high intelligence, she attended the same middle-of-the-road middle school Kana does, because it is closer to home. Further, she is implied to not participate in any after-school club or activity, though she may have some involvement with the student council, and likely was class representative in ninth grade. She has also rejected every suitor out of hand. Because of the way she has had to take care of her sisters, Haruka is by far the most reliable of the three sisters, to the point where there are almost no examples of her using Minami Logic. She is constantly seen busy cooking, cleaning, shopping or doing other housework. However, this is driven primarily out of love for her sisters.

保坂

Hosaka (保坂) is a third year student and the captain of the volleyball club who greatly admires Haruka Minami that he would like her to become the volleyball club's manager and his girlfriend. He has a tendency to act cool, stripping and fantasizing in front of people, to the point of being considered a narcissist, causing those who know him to label him as a weirdo, especially Maki that her signature phrase of labeling him as "disgusting".

南冬馬

Tōma Minami (南 冬馬 Minami Tōma) is a primary school student in class 5-1 who is the youngest member of the other Minami family and the only girl.

アツコ

Haruka's classmate and friend, along with Maki. Like all of her friends, she is a member of the Volleyball Club. She is a very quiet and polite girl, which leads to her often being ignored in conversations involving the more dynamic characters around her. She can also be spotted in the school library. These character traits, along with a surprising lack of finger strength, apparently give her a high degree of moe, which makes Kana and Maki jealous.

速水

Cunning and mischievous, Hayami enjoys involving her juniors in humorous situations for her amusement. Of particular note is her penchant for getting them, and any other minors in the area, drunk on alcohol, which she convinces them is "high-quality juice". It is implied she is a heavy drinker, since she drinks and tolerates the alcohol quite well herself.

Third year. She is a senior to Kana. Reluctantly nicknamed third generation Banchou in school, Yū gladly hands over the title to Fujioka when she intentionally loses a "Rock-Paper-Scissors" duel to him.
