Gene Starwind and his partner Jim Hawking run a small business on the backwater planet of Centinel 3. But all that changes the day that Hilda hires them for a bodyguard job. Now, thrust into a mystery they don't fully understand, they're on the run from the cops, the pirates, an angry alien, and a mysterious assassin. But they've got one thing going in their favor - they have the galaxy's most advanced ship, the Outlaw Star.
Gene Starwind dreams of life as an Outlaw, and fate smiles on him as he seems to suddenly wind up with a great job. But as things go awry, and he finds himself the new owner of the fastest, most technologically advanced space ship in the galaxy. Unfortunately, it's stolen and the owners want it back... Along with his partner Jim and the lovely Melfina, Gene must fight his way across the galaxy battling pirates, aliens, and assassins as he attempts to discover the secrets of the Outlaw Star.

Note: Chapters 18-21 were never released in volume form, and only through magazine serialization. As of January 1999 the manga has been on an indefinite hiatus with no update on when it will be continued.

MAINGene Starwind (ジーン･スターウインド, Jīn Sutāuindo) is an outlaw, pilot, gunman and jack-of-all trades. Business partners with eleven-year-old computer prodigy Jim Hawking, Gene runs a semi-legitimate business dubbed "Starwind and Hawking" on Sentinel III. When he was 14, Gene lost his father in what appeared to be a brutal Space pirate attack and has ever since been terrified of space. At 20 years old, he is offered the chance of a lifetime when he meets an outlaw named "Hot Ice" Hilda and acquires a state-of-the-art ship, the XGP 15A-II, and a biological android named Melfina, with the ability to find and unlock the galaxy's biggest treasure - the Galactic Leyline.

MAINJames "Jim" Hawking (ジム･ホーキング, Jimu Hōkingu) is an eleven-year-old outlaw and the business partner of Gene Starwind. The co-owner of Starwind and Hawking Enterprises, Jim acts as the "brains" to Gene's "brawn" in harried situations and is a constant voice of reason.

MAIN"Twilight" Suzuka (黄昏の鈴鹿, Tasogare no Suzuka) is an "Ultra Class A" assassin who is known for killing her victims during a setting sun. Her choice of weapon, a Bokken, a wooden sword, considered unusual among her profession, allows her to slip through undetected in highly secure environments. A woman with a "mysterious past", Suzuka joins up with Gene Starwind and the crew of the Outlaw Star, claiming that she finds them to be all rather interesting people, and teams up with them in their fight against the Kei pirates.

"Hot Ice" Hilda (熱き氷のヒルダ, Atsuki Kōri no Hiruda) was an outlaw with an enigmatic life and a sworn enemy of the Kei Pirate Guild and the MacDougall brothers. Prior to landing on Sentinel III, she stole the prized possessions of the Kei pirates, the XGP 15A-II and a bio-android named "Melfina".
