D

D also known as Vampire Hunter D (吸血鬼ハンター"D") is a dhampir, a half vampire, half human who travels around the Frontier in search of the Nobility. In almost every book it is noted that D has superior strength, skills and knowledge in comparison to other dhampirs. It is hinted that this is because he has some special connection to the Sacred Ancestor (it is generally regarded that D is his son, though this has never been explicitly stated) and that he is the result of crossbreeding experiments performed by the Sacred Ancestor to halt the inevitable decline of the Nobility.

Doris Lang

ドリス・ラン

Doris Lang (ドリス・ラング) is a farmer living on the outskirts of Ransylva, a rural farming village on the Frontier. She is the daughter of a werewolf hunter and the older sister of Dan Lang, whom she looks after. After an encounter with Magnus Lee wherein she is bitten, she procures D's services as a vampire hunter to eliminate him. She makes her appearance in Vampire Hunter D.

Dan Lang

Dan Lang is the son of a Werewolf Hunter, living in Ransylva. He is the younger brother of Doris Lang. He knows how to use a rifle and operate his home's security system to defend against wandering beasts. He looks up to D as a role model. He makes his appearance in Vampire Hunter D.

Lina Belan (リナ Belan) also known as Lina Sween (リナ Sween) was a resident of the village of Tepes. She makes her appearance in Raiser of Gales.

Shinso

神祖

The Sacred Ancestor (神祖, Shinso) is the most ancient ruler of the Nobility and perhaps the progenitor of the entire race being the original pure blood dating back to at least to earth's creation. He also seems to have a connection to the origins of the vampire hunter D, possibly as his paternal father based upon recognition by Count Magnus Lee- one of the oldest and most powerful members of the surviving Greater Nobility. Drake known to most as the "great one" is worshiped by most Nobles as a god. In Bloodlust, D is also asked by Carmilla if he is the son of the "Vampire King", indicating this is another title by which he is referred to.
