Nico (ニコ Niko), inmate number 25, is one of the main protagonists of the Nanbaka anime and web manga series. He is an inmate of Nanba Prison where he is held in building thirteen, cell thirteen. Arrested for unwittingly buying and selling drugs in the slums, he is a sickly individual who is dependent on medication for survival.

Uno (ウノ Uno), inmate number eleven, is one of the main protagonists of the Nanbaka anime and web manga series. He is an inmate of Nanba Prison where he is held in building thirteen, cell thirteen. A compulsive and talented gambler, he was arrested for frequenting underground casinos.

Hajime Sugoroku (双 (すこ) 六 (ろく) 一 (はじめ) Sugoroku Hajime) is one of the main protagonists of the Nanbaka anime and web manga. He is a guard of Nanba Prison, where he is considered to be the prison's strongest guard in generations. He is the supervisor of building thirteen and the older brother of Hitoshi Sugoroku.

ロック

Rock (ロック Rokku), inmate number 69, is one of the main protagonists of the Nanbaka Web Manga and anime series. He is an inmate of Nanba Prison where he is held in building thirteen, cell thirteen. A strong individual with a love for fighting, he was arrested for starting an urban gang riot.

Mitsuru Hitokoe (一声 三鶴 Hitokoe Mitsuru) is a supporting character in the Nanbaka web manga and anime. He is the chief broadcaster of Nanba Prison.

Trois (トロワ Torowa), inmate number three, is a supporting character of the Nanbaka web manga and anime. He is an inmate of Nanba Prison, where he is held in cell six of building three alongside Honey.

Qi (チ ィ ーChī ), Inmate number 71, is a character in the Nanbaka web manga and anime. He is a former member of the Chinese Mafia and an inmate of Nanba Prison, where he is being held in cell eight of building 5.

御十義翁

Okina Otogi (御十義翁 Otogi Okina) is a supporting character in the Nanbaka Web Manga and Anime. He is the head doctor at Nanba Prison.

二舞下猫

Mao Nimaijita (ニ舞下 猫 Nimaijita Mao) is a supporting character of the Anime and Web Manga series. He is the deputy supervising officer of Building 2, though in his first appearance is seen filling in for an absent Building 8 supervisor. He was forced to resign by Taiga Nikaidou.
