Much of the damage attributed to "Vash" is caused by the activities of bounty hunters who are after the 60,000,000,000$$ (sixty billion "double dollars") reward on Vash's head for the destruction of a city called July. Vash does not clearly remember the destruction of July, and only wants "love and peace", as he puts it; though he is a gunfighter of inhuman skill, he uses his weapons only to save lives wherever he can.
As the series progresses, more is gradually learned about Vash's mysterious history and the history of the human civilization on Gunsmoke, the desert planet the series is set on. The series is often humorous in tone, but at the same time it involves very serious character development and especially in later episodes it becomes quite emotionally intense. Vash is occasionally joined by a priest, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who is almost as good a gunfighter as Vash himself, and later is targeted by a band of assassins known as the Gung-Ho Guns for reasons which are mysterious at first.
Trigun evolves into a very serious discussion of the nature of morality, posing questions such as: What is the nature of morality? Can we judge different moral codes? If a person is forced to betray their moral code, does that betrayal invalidate that moral code, and can the person still try to live up to that moral code? Can the person find redemption from their wrongs, and if so, how?

ミリィ・トンプソン
MAINMilly has a kind heart as well as a strength of character and genuine optimism. Kindness comes to her naturally and she does her best to give it to others, often going out of her way to offer help to those who need it. She is a bit of a crybaby as well and is easily upset over trivial things such as pudding. In the manga, she later has a change in the profession and leaves her job as an insurance agent, working alongside Meryl in No Man's Land Broadcasting.

MAINMeryl Stryfe (メリル・ストライフ, Meriru Sutoraifu) in Trigun Stampede is a journalist working for the Bernardelli News Agency attempting to track down Vash The Stampede. In Trigun and Trigun Maximum, Meryl and her junior coworker, Milly, are agents of the Bernardelli Insurance Society sent to evaluate claims regarding Vash The Stampede.
In the manga, Midvalley has dark hair styled in a middle part and light colored eyes. In his debut appearance, he wears a white single-breasted suit, a vest and a mid-toned undershirt, and is seen carrying a saxophone case. From then on, he wears a white double breasted jacket with a mid-toned undershirt.
B.D.N. is a large statuesque man with long brown hair in a ponytail and has brown eyes. He wears a white hat and outfit fitted with yellow and pink neon lights and black fingerless gloves.
マリリン
SUPPORTINGShe (and her family) were hired by Morgan to dispatch of an old couple in possession of a rather valuable patch of land. The money would've gone to bail out her brother Gofsef and her father from jail. She flees the fight when Chinpei is shot out of the air.
Hoppered the Gauntlet is a member of the Gung-Ho-Guns. He is the sixth Gung-Ho-Gun in the manga and the third in the anime.
